چکیده

Infrared pulses with large spectral width extending from 1.2 to 3.4 μm are generated in the organic crystal DAST (4-N, N-dimethylamino-4′-N′-methylstilbazolium tosylate). The input pulse has a central wavelength of 1.5 μm and 65 fs duration. With 2.8 mJ input energy we obtained up to 700 μJ in the broadened spectrum. The output can be easily scaled up in energy by increasing the crystal size together with the energy and the beam size of the pump. The ultrabroad spectrum is ascribed to cascaded second order processes mediated by the exceptionally large effective χ nonlinearity of DAST, but the shape of the spectrum indicates that a delayed χ process may also be involved. Numerical simulations reproduce the experimental results qualitatively and provide an insight in the mechanisms underlying the asymmetric spectral

Far-infrared second-harmonic generation and pulse characterization with the organic salt DAST.

We generated the second harmonics of pulses in the far-infrared region (30-55 microm), using the organic salt dimethylamino-4-N-methylstilbazolium tosylate (DAST). We demonstrate that DAST can be used to characterize ultrashort pulses in a spectral region where no other materials are available. To illustrate the need for such characterizations, we show the effects of propagation through air on ...

Ultrafast and octave-spanning optical nonlinearities from strongly phase-mismatched quadratic interactions.

Cascaded nonlinearities have attracted much interest, but ultrafast applications have been seriously hampered by the simultaneous requirements of being near phase matching and having ultrafast femtosecond response times. Here we show that in strongly phase-mismatched nonlinear frequency conversion crystals the pump pulse can experience a large and extremely broadband self-defocusing cascaded Ke...

Multi-octave supercontinuum generation from mid-infrared filamentation in a bulk crystal

In supercontinuum generation, various propagation effects combine to produce a dramatic spectral broadening of intense ultrashort optical pulses. With a host of applications, supercontinuum sources are often required to possess a range of properties such as spectral coverage from the ultraviolet across the visible and into the infrared, shot-to-shot repeatability, high spectral energy density a...

Generating mid-IR octave-spanning supercontinua and few-cycle pulses with solitons in phase-mismatched quadratic nonlinear crystals

We discuss a novel method for generating octave-spanning supercontinua and few-cycle pulses in the important mid-IR wavelength range. The technique relies on strongly phase-mismatched cascaded second-harmonic generation (SHG) in mid-IR nonlinear frequency conversion crystals. Importantly we here investigate the so-called noncritical SHG case, where no phase matching can be achieved but as a com...

Square Lattice Elliptical- Core Photonic Crystal Fiber Soliton-Effect Compressor at 1550nm

In this paper, we investigate the evolution of supercontinuum and femtosecond optical pulses generation through square lattice elliptical-core photonic crystal fiber (PCF) at 1550 nm by using both full-vector multipole method (M.P.M) and novel concrete algorithms: symmetric  split-step Fourier (SSF) and  fourth order Runge Kutta (RK4) which is an accurate method to solve the general  nonlinear...
